Weekly Update from the Cardinals by Lyla and Manny
In social studies we are learning about Identity and landforms and geographic terms and of course we learned with cheesy videos. We learned the physical features of the United States, like the Great Basin and the Rocky Mountains. And also we had a debate about indigenous people day or Columbus Day. That’s what we did in social studies.
In ELA ( English Language Arts) we learned about different skills to read like comparing and predictions. Also we learned about seed writing where you traced your hand and you put things that remind you of stories that happened with your hand. That’s what we did in ELA.
This week for specials we had art, PE, library/tech and music. In art we finished our sugar skull project. Our sugar skulls are made from paper, but are also three D (3D) and colored with bright and vibrants symmetrical colors. In PE we went on a scavenger hunt hike. We went on a hike through the woods to find ghost skulls and day or the dead skulls. If you and your family have nothing to do for Halloween, you are able to take a hike like we did in PE! After Halloween weekend decorations will be taken down. In the library and tech we learned about digital citizenship. We played games to help us realize the dangers on the internet. That’s what we do in our specials.
In math this week we started module one. Our main focus the past week has been multiplying and dividing decimals. We have been working with place value charts. A place value chart is a chart with places like (hundredths, tenths, ones, tens, hundreds, etc.). We also started our eureka math book. We also learned about thousandths and how they work. That’s what we did in math.
We have been eating eating lunch in the cafeteria. When we asked our classmates, they agreed that the food is better than last year but that, "the hand sanitizer smells awful. It smells like rotten cheese and fruit that has been dragged through the mud."
In Activity Period we finish any work that we didn’t finish during the day or some kids have zooms with other teachers.
In SEL (social emotional learning) we learned about empathy and respect. This week we learned that empathy/being empathetic is very important to show to others. Respect is also very important to show to others and yourself. That’s what we did in SEL.
That’s what we did this week!
