In ELA, we have begun our unit on persuasive writing and the students are running with it! We are currently looking at Socrates' three persuasive techniques - ethos, pathos, and logos - and finding examples in the world of advertising. Our next step will be examining the components of effective persuasive letters. Students will then choose a topic that's important to them and write a letter to the appropriate audience, persuading them to take an action. I've already heard some great ideas. Be sure to ask your A-010er what they're learning about being persuasive - and don't be surprised if you start hearing some well-reasoned arguments from your child!
